Joy Comes in the Mourning: Working through the pain of miscarriage and stillbirth to find God’s perfect peace by Heather Lynn Penner 84 pages, paperback $11.95 “I have read that grieving is a journey. Not an exciting journey that you plan for and look forward to, but an unexpected journey that you are thrust into against your will.” Heather Penner began this journey when her son was stillborn at 20 weeks. In this book she endeavours to walk beside grieving mothers, and to help them find the peace that only God can bring. The short chapters use Scripture to lead the reader to the hope God promises. After losing her son to a late miscarriage, the author was unable to find resources to help her through her grieving. Books by men who had obviously not experienced her pain offered her no comfort. Books written from a secular point of view offered her no strength. Her greatest comfort came from a group of ladies in an on-line support group, “Mending Hearts.” These godly women supported each other and pointed each other to the Scripture as they sought answers for their pain. She later joined the mentoring team of this group, helping other women deal with the pain of miscarriage and stillbirth. It is from this experience as mentor, and the apparent lack of resources available, that she was encouraged to create this book. Many of the chapters are taken from posts she sent to these ladies in the form of devotionals or simple encouragements. The author later helped to found “Open Doors,” which supported women trying to conceive after a loss. About the Author: Heather Penner is also the author of Modern History Through Canadian Eyes, a guide for homeschooling parents to teach their children Canadian History. < Home > < History Guide > < Teaching History > < Order > < Contact > Copyright © 2005 Solid Oak Publishing All rights reserved Webmaster: heather@solidoakpublishing.com
